The authentic Finnish sauna experience is alternating “rounds on the bench” in the hot room and going out in the cold to cool down. The combination of the hot and cold and the sweating relaxes the mind and body and works to relieve stress.
The experience can be comtempletive and quiet or social and celebratory depending on your need. It’s fun to have a sauna party with family and friends and a quiet, meditative solo sauna brings you back to yourself.
Taking a sauna forces us to put down our technology because phones don’t work at 180 degrees. Instead of interacting with the screen, the direct experience of fire, heat, rocks, water and cold connect us to the moment and the physical world.
